Figaro here, Figaro there! Opera Iowa Residency and Performance in Hardin County
Hardin County Performance Series continues their 16-17 season on Monday, March 6, 2017 with two school outreach programs and one evening performance featuring the singers of Opera Iowa, the touring company of the Des Moines Metro Opera of Indianola. The nine-members of Opera Iowa hail from all across the country, and have as their goal to captivate their audiences. The troupe is returning to Hardin County after performances and school outreach programs in 2016.
Students in Radcliffe and Eldora will enjoy classes taught by the singers and musicians, as well as in-school performances of the children’s opera, “Jack and the Beanstalk,” by John Davies. This is a crucial part of the Opera Iowa troupe’s work during their 12-week residency in Indianola - bringing live music to young people, and involving them in the performance of fine music.
HCPS brings Opera Iowa for the second evening performance of the 16-17 season on that same evening at South Hardin High School in Eldora at 7:00 p.m. “The Barber of Seville” is a comic romp full of false identities, disguises, and some of the most engaging, energetic, and familiar operatic music ever composed. Sung in English with piano accompaniment, this performance features full theatrical costumes, lights, staging, and some of the most gifted young vocalists in the nation to bring the audience into the world of Figaro and Rosina.
Tickets are $10/adult, $5/student, are available at the door, and will be available at the Iowa Falls Chamber (648-3432) and at Hardin County Savings Bank in Eldora (939-3407).
